Former US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle Obama announced today, Friday, their support for Democratic candidate Kamala Harris in the US presidential elections and her quest to reach the White House.
The endorsement from Barack and Michelle Obama would give current Vice President Kamala Harris the expected but crucial support of two of the country's most popular Democrats, according to the Associated Press.
"Michelle and I called our friend Kamala Harris over the weekend. We told her we believe she would be an excellent president of the United States and that she has our full support," Obama wrote on Twitter, according to AFP.
NBC News reported Thursday that the former US president intends to endorse the Democratic Party's vice president for this year's presidential race.
The network's report quoted informed sources as saying that Barack Obama expressed his support for Harris in private conversations and that he is in contact with her.
The report added that aides to Obama and Harris "have discussed the possibility of coordinating their appearances on the campaign trail, but no date has been set yet."
