Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdullah Bou Habib said on Sunday that any war on his country would turn into a regional war.
Bou Habib stated that "the war will be devastating for everyone, not just Lebanon as some believe. Israel claims heroism, but all countries are defeated, so it is better to exercise restraint."
The Lebanese minister added: "An international committee must be formed to investigate the source of the attack on Majdal Shams in the occupied Golan, and cooperation with UNIFIL (international peacekeeping forces on the border) is possible."
He continued: "We are conducting extensive contacts to prevent escalation. The Lebanese government always calls for restraint," referring to fears of the conflict expanding and becoming more intense.
Bou Habib explained that "any war on Lebanon will turn into a regional war and Israel will suffer losses. We have had enough destruction in Lebanon, Israel and Gaza, of course," noting that contact was made with Hezbollah "and it denies responsibility for the attack."
Bou Habib's statement comes amid escalating tensions following an attack on Saturday evening that killed 12 people in Majdal Shams in the occupied Golan.
Israel accused Hezbollah of being responsible for the bombing.
Hezbollah responded to this, saying in a statement that it "categorically denies the allegations made by some enemy media outlets and various media platforms about targeting Majdal Shams," stressing that it "has absolutely nothing to do with the incident."
