"The document on artificial intelligence, signed by Brazilian scientists, is an important step for the country. Brazil must learn to fly," President Lula da Silva said at a conference dedicated to the issue.

The government explained in a statement that the goal of this plan is to develop "one of the five most powerful supercomputers in the world."

The government added that Brazil also wants to develop advanced language models in Portuguese, "with national data that includes our cultural, social and linguistic characteristics."

This plan also provides for the use of artificial intelligence to improve the quality of public services such as health and to promote innovation in business, allowing new technologies to serve the Brazilian industrial fabric.

It is also hoped that artificial intelligence will be used to combat deforestation and prevent disasters, as part of this program.

The implementation and financing of this plan will be the subject of a discussion next week between the leftist president and his ministers.
