She added in the statement, "In this regard, the President affirmed the Egyptian position rejecting the continuation of military operations in the Gaza Strip, stressing the importance of the international community fulfilling its responsibilities to stop the war and ensuring the implementation of relief aid sufficient to truly alleviate the humanitarian catastrophe that the Palestinians are experiencing in the Gaza Strip."

For his part, the head of the US Central Intelligence Agency praised the Egyptian efforts to establish a ceasefire and implement humanitarian aid, stressing his country’s appreciation for the rational and responsible Egyptian positions, which are pushing strongly towards establishing peace, security and development, regionally and internationally.

The meeting also discussed developments in the regional situation, where the latest developments in joint efforts to reach a truce and ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip were discussed.

Senior American officials visited the region to press for a ceasefire after Hamas made concessions last week, but Hamas said that a new Israeli attack on Gaza on Monday threatened truce talks at a crucial moment and called on mediators to restrain Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The Egyptian Cairo News TV channel quoted a high-ranking source as saying that the Egyptian delegation in the Gaza negotiations is intensifying its efforts to bring the views of all concerned parties closer together.
