Dohuk Club clinched its qualification ticket to the Gulf Champions League championship from Iraq, by defeating Najaf 1-0, in the deciding match, yesterday, Tuesday.
The only goal of the match for the Dohuk team came in the first half, scored by Zulfiqar Younis in the 37th minute.
The two teams reached the decisive confrontation, after Al-Najaf defeated Zakho on penalty kicks, while Dohuk was considered the winner over Al-Zawraa after the latter refused to play the match due to the administrative problems that are currently plaguing its management.
The Gulf Champions Championship will be held from September 18, 2024 to April 15, 2025, on a home-and-away system.
What clubs qualify for the Gulf Champions Championship?
Dohuk became the eighth qualifier for the tournament, after Al-Ettifaq of Saudi Arabia, Al-Nasr of the Emirates, Al-Qadisiyah of Kuwait, Al-Arabi of Qatar, Al-Riffa of Bahrain, Dhofar of Yemen, and Ahli Sanaa of Yemen.
The Emirati Al-Shabab team was the last to win the tournament in 2015, after defeating its Omani counterpart, Al-Seeb, on penalty kicks.
