El Gendy wins gold for Egypt at the Olympics and breaks the world record

On Saturday, Ahmed El Gendy won Egypt's first gold medal at the Paris Olympics when he won the men's modern pentathlon competition.

Japanese Taisho Sato won the silver medal, and Italian Giorgio Malan won the bronze medal.


El Gendy broke the world record in the competition after reaching 1555 points, while the old record was 1482.


El Gendy topped the final standings before the swimming and laser run competitions by 15 seconds over his closest competitor in the modern pentathlon at the Paris Olympics.


Egyptian Sarah Samir (26 years old) had won the silver medal in the 81 kg weightlifting category for women at the Paris Olympics on Saturday.


Norwegian Kwanda Solfried snatched the gold medal with a new Olympic record after lifting 275 kg, while the bronze medal went to Nisi Dacomis from Ecuador.


Sarah Samir succeeded in lifting 268 kg in total, achieving the second Olympic medal in Samir's career, who won the bronze medal in the 69 kg weight class at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics in 2016.
