Former official denies Trump's account of Harris revelations

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump appeared to confuse former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown with former California Gov. Jerry Brown during a news conference on Thursday as he recounted a dramatic tale of a brush with death in a helicopter crash.

Speaking from his Florida home on a range of topics, Trump told a story about a helicopter that nearly crashed with him and Willie Brown, who briefly dated Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris decades ago, Reuters reported.

"We thought this might be the end of it. We were in a helicopter together going to a certain location and we made an emergency landing. It wasn't a pleasant landing, and Willie was a little scared," Trump said.

Trump also said Willie Brown had told him "terrible things" about Harris.

But Brown, a longtime Democratic political powerbroker, told the San Francisco Chronicle after Trump’s news conference that he had never ridden in a helicopter with the former president.

He also denied that he had said anything disparaging to Trump about Harris.

As president, Trump toured California wildfire sites in a helicopter with then-Gov. Jerry Brown in 2018, NBC News reported.

Neither the Trump campaign nor Harris’s campaign immediately responded to requests for comment Friday about what appeared to be a confusion between Willie Brown and Jerry Brown.

A representative for former Gov. Jerry Brown told The New York Times that there was no emergency landing and that Harris was not discussed during the flight.
