Video clips revealed what heavy rains did to New Delhi on Friday, as they caused a roof to collapse at the Indian capital's airport.
Flight operations were suspended in one of the airport's terminals, after the tragic accident that led to the death of one person and the injury of several others.
Video clips showed huge metal poles running over cars parked in a parking lot, some with passengers inside.
The Indian Ministry of Civil Aviation wrote on the X platform: “In an unfortunate development, due to the collapse of the canopy at Terminal 1 of Delhi Airport this morning (Friday), a small number of people were injured.”
“All required rescue operations are being conducted at the station,” Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu said.
Officials later confirmed that one person died from injuries resulting from the collapse of the airport roof.
A statement issued by Delhi Airport authorities said, “Due to heavy rain that fell since early Friday morning, part of the canopy collapsed at the old departure apron of Terminal 1 of Delhi Airport.”
She added: “As a result of this incident, all departures from Terminal 1 have been temporarily suspended, and the check-in desks have been closed.”
The Indian capital has witnessed heavy rains over the past few days, causing traffic jams and flooding of roads in several places.
New Delhi Police issued several alerts regarding traffic jams and water accumulation due to rain.
