Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian said that expanding the scope of the war between Israel and Hamas is “inevitable,” amid concerns in this regard in the region and beyond.
Amir Abdullahian told his Qatari counterpart, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, in a phone call on Thursday evening: “Given the increasing intensity of the war against the civilian population in Gaza, expanding the scope of the war has become inevitable,” according to what was stated on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ website, Friday.
Tehran praised the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, describing it as “successful,” but denied any involvement in it.
Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi said that his country considers it “its duty to support the resistance factions,” but stressed that they act independently.
Raisi will join Arab leaders in Riyadh, on Saturday, to attend two summits that are expected to confirm the demand to stop Israeli attacks on Gaza before the violence spreads to other countries.
Washington and Israel have warned Iran more than once against engaging it or one of its arms in the region in the war.
On the border between Lebanon and Israel, the exchange of shells and missiles continues between Hezbollah and Palestinian factions on the one hand and the Israeli army on the other hand, on an almost daily basis.
