Jake Paul entered the ring at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida, with the spirit of a wrestler and it took every ounce of it to defeat the “King of Violence” Mike Perry on Saturday night.
A flurry of punches dropped Paul Perry in the sixth round. When the referee counted to eight and got Perry back to his feet, he stumbled while trying to slide to his corner. It's over.
Perry showed his toughness all night. Paul knocked him down early in the first and second rounds, but even when he was competing with his hands down, the bare-fingered fighter withstood Paul's powerful jabs and jabs longer than probably expected.
"He's tough as nails," Paul said of Perry.
Before the start of the fifth round, the ringside doctor examined Perry again. Paul took his time and waited for the final blows in the sixth round.
For Perry, it was just a stop on his path to glory. He is 5-0 in the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC) with his last win coming in April against Thiago Alves.
Paul has moved to 10-1 in his career with his seventh professional knockout, and now he must begin the physical and mental training of Mike Tyson once again.
Paul and Tyson were supposed to compete Saturday night in Arlington, Texas. But a medical condition forced postponement until November. This is still the case now.
Tyson, 58, has not fought a professional fight since 2005. He has not won a professional fight since 2003.
“Mike Tyson, you're the next big boy,” Paul said.
He also invited UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira to get into the ring with him in a boxing fight.
