A new opinion poll showed that nearly two-thirds of Democrats want their party's candidate, US President Joe Biden, to withdraw from the presidential race.
According to the poll conducted by the AP-NORC Center, most of which was conducted before the attempted assassination of Republican candidate Donald Trump on Saturday, 65% of Democrats say that Biden “should withdraw.”
In general, 7 out of 10 American adults say that Biden should leave the race in the elections, scheduled for next November.
Moreover, nearly half of Democrats are not at all confident that Biden has the mental capacity needed to serve as president, compared to a third in a poll conducted last February.
In contrast, 27 percent of Democrats are completely confident in his ability to be president, down from 40 percent in the February poll.
Trump immediately seized the opportunity and commented on these results on his social media platform, “Truth Social.”
"An unprecedented event is happening. The Democrats are once again trying to knock Biden out of the presidential race," Trump wrote.
Voices have increased calling for Biden to withdraw from the presidential elections and for the Democratic Party to choose a replacement for him, especially after his performance, which was described as disastrous in an election debate against Trump, about two weeks ago.
