Organisers cancelled a triathlon training session on the River Seine at the Paris Olympics on Sunday after pollution levels in the river rose following recent heavy rains in the French capital.
The Olympic organizers added in a statement: "The tests and experiments carried out on the river water on Saturday revealed, according to the International Triathlon Federation standards, that the water quality does not allow the training session to proceed."
It continued: "The reason for this is due to the rain in Paris on Friday and Saturday."
The organizers expressed confidence that the water quality in the river will improve before the start of the triathlon competition with the men's race on Tuesday.
The triathlon competition includes three races, swimming, cycling and running.
France is counting heavily on allowing Olympic athletes to swim in the main waterway in Paris when the triathlon competition starts, after investing 1.4 billion euros in projects aimed at making the river suitable for swimming, as it is an important legacy of the Olympics.
