CNN reported, citing four sources who viewed the phone call between them, that Pelosi told Biden that he might destroy the Democrats' chances of winning the House of Representatives in November if he continued to seek a second term.
The president responded negatively, telling Pelosi that he had seen polls indicating he could win, one source said.
Another source described Biden as taking a defensive stance regarding opinion polls.
At one point, Pelosi asked Mike Donilon, a longtime Biden adviser, to stand on the line to talk about the data.
While the exact date of the conversation was unclear, one source described it as taking place within the past week.
Neither source indicated whether Pelosi told Biden in this conversation that she believed the president should withdraw from the 2024 race.
Sources in Washington, citing the American News Nation network, reported that President Biden will withdraw from the presidential race in the coming days.
In a related context, the American CNN network quoted a Democratic advisor, whom it described as “senior,” saying that Biden “has become more accepting of the idea of his withdrawal from the presidential race.”
Biden is locked in a battle with some of his Democratic colleagues who are concerned about his advanced age as he seeks re-election and want him to withdraw from the race in favor of another candidate.
