Real Madrid escaped the trap of its rival, Real Sociedad, by snatching a difficult victory with two goals to one during the match that brought them together, on Sunday, at the “Santiago Bernabeu” stadium, in the fifth round of the Spanish League.
“Al-Royal” continued its series of victories in the competition, achieving full marks in its five matches, to lead the standings with 15 points, two points ahead of second-placed Barcelona, while Sociedad’s balance froze at 6 points.
The events of the match were exciting, as the advantage in the first half was for Sociedad, which surprised its rival with an early goal in the fifth minute by Ander Barrenchea, then Japanese Takefusa Kubo added a second goal in the 10th minute, but the referee canceled it due to offside.
Spanish international Kepa Arrizabalaga, Real Madrid's goalkeeper, excelled in defending his goal valiantly, stopping more than one dangerous opportunity from the Sociedad attackers, which would have doubled the score, had it not been for his alertness.
In the second half, the Madrid team was active, in light of the decline in the performance of the Sociedad players, and Uruguayan Fede Valverde succeeded in equalizing in the 46th minute, before his teammate Joselu added the second goal in the 60th minute.
In other matches in the same round, Getafe beat Osasuna by three goals to two, and Sevilla beat Las Palmas by one unanswered goal, in a confrontation that witnessed the first appearance of Sergio Ramos with his new team, Sevilla, and Villarreal also beat Almeria by two goals to one.
