Russian drone attacks Ukrainian energy facility

Ukraine's national power grid operator said on Friday that Russia attacked energy facilities in two regions with drones last night, causing power outages.

UkrEnergo added that electricity supplies have already been restored to most consumers in the northern regions of Chernihiv and Zhytomyr.

Russia has intensified missile and drone attacks on Ukraine’s energy sector since the spring, causing power outages in many areas and forcing Kiev to start importing electricity on a large scale from the European Union.

This comes as the Dutch defence minister announced that 14 German-made Leopard 2 tanks, promised by Denmark and the Netherlands last year, will be delivered to Ukraine before the end of the summer.

“Kiev urgently needs more military support, given the fierce fighting on the battlefield,” Ruben Brekelmans said.

“These tanks can play an important role in allowing the Ukrainian army to defend itself against Russian forces,” he was quoted as saying in a statement.
