The British Prime Minister decides to abolish the “Rwanda Law” in his first decision

The Telegraph newspaper confirmed that the new British Prime Minister decided to make his "first decision" in his new term, which began on Friday.

رئيس وزراء بريطانيا يقرر إلغاء "قانون رواندا" في أول قرار له

The newspaper said that Prime Minister Keir Starmer abolished, on the first day of his term, the “Rwanda Law” regarding the deportation of refugees, which was approved by the previous Conservative government.

The Rwanda Act was passed by the United Kingdom Parliament on April 22, 2024.

What is the Rwanda Safety Bill?

The Rwanda Safety Bill was part of Prime Minister Sunak's plan to stop boats carrying illegal immigrants to the UK.

Furthermore, it aims to dismantle the business model of criminal organizations that facilitate such journeys for illegal immigrants.

Many people who arrive in the UK via small boats apply for asylum, and the government has granted it to many in the past.

In April 2022, the UK concluded an agreement with Rwanda to send stowaways and boat migrants to East Africa.

If these illegal immigrants seek asylum in Britain, the government will assess their claim while they are living in Rwanda.

The new Prime Minister

On Friday, the Royal Palace announced the official appointment of Keir Starmer as Prime Minister of Britain, after receiving the blessing of King Charles III to form the government in a ceremony called “kissing the hands.”

Starmer replaces Conservative Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who submitted his resignation to King Charles after his party, which had ruled the country for 14 years, was removed from power by an overwhelming Labor majority.
