Less than two days after US President Joe Biden withdrew from the presidential race, the various forces active under the Democratic Party tent rallied around US Vice President Kamala Harris.
This was accompanied by an influx of more than $100 million in financial donations to the Harris campaign, most of which came from ordinary citizens, an indication that the Democratic base welcomed these developments.
With Kamala Harris resuming her electoral activities, the majority of Democratic delegates who were elected during the party elections expressed their support for Harris and guaranteed her obtaining the party’s nomination, weeks before the start of the party’s national convention in Chicago in the middle of next month.
This came after Harris obtained, with astonishing speed, the support of all the leaders of the Democratic Party in the House of Representatives and the Senate, and more importantly, she obtained the support of the party leaders, among whose ranks someone who would challenge her could emerge.
Choosing Harris' running mate remains one of her most important and prominent choices ahead of the presidential elections.
