The Houthi military spokesman, Brigadier General Yahya Saree, said on Friday that the movement targeted Tel Aviv with a drone in solidarity with the Palestinians in the Gaza war.
The military spokesman for "Ansar Allah" explained in a statement: "The Yemeni Armed Forces' air force carried out a qualitative military operation, which included targeting one of the important targets in the occupied Jaffa region, what is called Israeli Tel Aviv."
Saree stated: “The operation was carried out with a new drone called (Yafa) that is able to bypass the enemy’s interception systems and cannot be detected by radars. The operation achieved its goals successfully.”
He added: "We will focus on targeting the enemy's internal front and reaching the depths, and we will confirm that we have a bank of targets in occupied Palestine."
He continued: "The Yemeni Armed Forces declare the occupied Jaffa area (Tel Aviv) an unsafe area and will be a primary target within the range of our weapons."
For its part, the Israeli authorities announced that the large explosion that occurred in the streets of central Tel Aviv caused one death and the injury of at least 10 people.
The Israeli army announced that it was investigating what appeared to be a drone attack that struck central Tel Aviv in the early hours of Friday, but did not trigger the sirens.
The explosion occurred hours after the Israeli army confirmed that it had killed a senior leader in the Hezbollah group in southern Lebanon.
The army said in a statement: “The preliminary investigation indicates that the explosion in Tel Aviv was caused by the fall of an air target, and the sirens did not sound. The incident is under careful investigation.”
He added that he had increased the number of air patrols to protect Israeli airspace without ordering new civil defense measures.
In this context, Israeli media reports quoted the army as saying, “The march that struck Tel Aviv was not intercepted due to human error.”
At the same time, the military spokesman for the Yemeni Houthi group, Yahya Saree, wrote on the X platform, saying, “The specific operation, the details of which will be announced, targeted Tel Aviv in occupied Palestine.”
The police announced that the body of a man was found in an apartment near the site of the explosion, saying that they were investigating the circumstances.
Footage from the site showed broken glass scattered on the sidewalks, while crowds gathered around the site near a building with signs of an explosion that police sealed off with tape.
Hezbollah and the Houthis intensified their attacks against Israel and Western targets in what they said was solidarity with the Palestinians after Israel invaded the Gaza Strip following an attack by Hamas fighters on southern Israel.
