His Eminence expressed Al-Azhar’s appreciation for the Indonesian position in support of the rights of the Palestinian people, especially since the beginning of the aggression against Gaza, and extending a helping hand to our brothers in Gaza by preparing relief convoys and running them in cooperation with Al-Azhar.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Sheikh of Al-Azhar congratulated General Prabowo Subianto on his victory in the Indonesian presidential elections, and pointed out that Indonesia represents an Islamic model to be emulated in development and preservation of religion and values in a multicultural society.
The Sheikh of Al-Azhar stressed the need for there to be a unified political and religious stance towards the inhumane violations occurring in the Gaza Strip. The Sheikh of Al-Azhar indicated that the Muslim Council of Elders is studying the initiative to launch a global alliance of religious leaders, including religious leaders in Southeast Asia, under the title “Religions for Development and Peace,” aiming to benefit from the teachings of religions to serve and support sustainable development efforts and achieve its goals, especially in the region. Southeast Asia, stressing that Indonesia represents a model of development while preserving religious values.
The elected President of the Republic of Indonesia welcomed the initiative.
