The Ukrainian army said on Wednesday that "the situation is difficult" along the Eastern Front, adding that the main task currently "is to ensure the defenses and prevent the fall of our positions in the Kubyansk and Liman sectors."
In detail, the Commander of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, Oleksandr Sersky, said on Wednesday that the front line is still difficult and the main task of the Ukrainian forces is to ensure reliable defense and prevent the loss of strongholds.
The ground forces quoted Sersky as saying on the Telegram messaging app: “The enemy (Russian forces) is not abandoning its plans to reach the borders of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.”
"Our main task is to ensure reliable defense, to prevent the loss of our strongholds and positions in the Kubyansk and Limansk directions, as well as to successfully advance and reach the designated lines in the Bakhmut direction," he added.
This comes as Russian forces announce slow progress on the eastern front.
Yesterday, Tuesday, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu downplayed the counterattack launched by Ukraine and described it as a failure, but he acknowledged that the situation was tense in part of the Zaporizhya region under Moscow's control in the south of the country.
"The Ukrainian armed forces did not achieve their goals on any front," the Defense Ministry quoted Shoigu as saying.
He added, "The most tense situation is on the Zaporizhzhya front. The enemy has involved battalions from its strategic reserve, whose members have been trained by Western trainers," according to Reuters.
30 members of the Ukrainian "Azov" were killed
On the Qania side, Russian forces carried out air strikes and artillery shelling on groups of fighters from the Ukrainian "Azov" group in an area overlooking the Serebryansky Forest, killing about 30 fighters.
Alexander Savchuk, director of the media center of the "Center" group of the Russian army, told Sputnik on Wednesday that the group's forces "bombed fighters from the Ukrainian 'Azov' battalion and forces of the 67th division of the Ukrainian forces using artillery and aviation near the Serebryansky Forest." The enemy lost up to 30 fighters.”
