To make his decision, Biden meets with his family to consider the future of his election campaign

Updated: Jul 17

The American network NBC reported that President Joe Biden will meet with his family today to decide whether to continue his election campaign or withdraw from the presidential race in favor of another Democratic candidate.

لحسم قراره .. بايدن يجتمع بعائلته للنظر في مستقبل حملته الانتخابية

Biden's performance in the election debate against his Republican rival, Donald Trump, raised concerns from the Democratic Party and donors about his ability to continue the confrontation.

If Biden decides to withdraw, Democrats will meet next August in Chicago in what is known as an “open” convention, where individual delegates will need to choose another candidate.

This scenario would be unprecedented since 1968, when the party had to find an alternative to President Lyndon Johnson after the latter withdrew his candidacy in the midst of the Vietnam War.

Meanwhile, leaders in the Democratic Party defended US President Joe Biden after his debate with former US President Trump.

House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries acknowledged that Biden suffered a setback in his debate with Trump, but said that any setback is only a prelude to a return.

Democratic Senator Raphael Warnock, who is considered one of Biden's potential replacements, said that he does not support replacing Biden, stressing that the main task is to ensure that he wins the race in November.

A report by Axios said that since the beginning of his presidency, Joe Biden's senior aides have protected him from meetings with people inside and outside the White House, which led to shock among many White House aides when they saw his poor performance in the debate.

The report added that some former and current White House aides are beginning to question whether Biden can really complete a second term.

After the debate, Chandler West, the former White House director of photography, wrote on Instagram that “it is time for Joe to go.”

In this regard, Democratic strategist Tara Perry indicated, in her intervention with the "America Today" program on Sky News Arabia, that the time has come for Joe Biden to withdraw from the electoral race and make way for another candidate.

She added that the Democratic Party should move away from constantly relying on well-known names that they feel comfortable with.

Perry stressed that the party must overcome its fear of renewing leadership to avoid the mistakes that Joe Biden made during the last debate.

  • Biden's withdrawal from the electoral race is not only related to the debate, but also extends to the extent of his ability to serve a second term.

  • The Democratic Party should abandon the old strategy and appoint new leadership that puts young party members on the front lines.

  • The Democratic Party has the power to make decisions regarding President Biden, while the Biden family always remains supportive of him. However, at this advanced stage of the presidential race, it seems difficult to change the current candidate.

  • It is necessary to put the interests of the party at the forefront of our concerns. If Democrats truly seek to win, they cannot hesitate or be afraid to make the necessary changes and further gain the public's trust.

  • If the Democratic Party is to achieve victory, whether it unites or divides the party, it is necessary to adopt or accept new leadership.

  • Democrats face major challenges and growing concerns about Joe Biden, which requires taking seriously the policies at hand, and it is necessary to seriously consider the issue of replacing Biden, especially during the upcoming Democratic Convention.

  • The Democratic Party has the names and competencies capable of achieving victory over Donald Trump.

  • It should not be assumed that Joe Biden is the only candidate capable of outperforming Donald Trump. Based on what was witnessed in the weak performance that Biden showed during the debate against Trump, his mental capabilities were clearly limited.

  • The emergence of Donald Trump's star clearly during the debate confirms the necessity of reviewing the bets placed exclusively on Biden to achieve electoral victory.

  • For his part, the Democratic Party's strategist, Ellis Henekan, expresses concerns before making the decision to withdraw, especially about how it will be implemented and who the potential successor will be.

  • There are questions about whether the Vice President is the ideal choice as a replacement candidate for Biden.

  • It cannot be said that Biden is the only option for the Democrats, as the prominent task of the Democratic candidate now is to overcome Donald Trump and achieve victory over him.

  • The challenge of finding the right person to confront Trump in the current time crunch, as well as speculating about the type of split that might occur, further complicates the situation.

  • Joe Biden won the primary and is now the party's official nominee.

  • The majority of Americans do not prefer any of the current presidential candidates due to a number of problems and challenges that President Biden faces, in addition to the more complex problems that Trump suffers from.

  • The clear reality remains that the majority of citizens see ensuring that Donald Trump is not re-elected as a top priority. This poses a grave challenge to the American nation at the present time, and requires wise and careful handling.

  • It is impossible to predict the future accurately, however possible scenarios must be looked at carefully.

  • Many Democrats believe that Kamala Harris may not be able to outperform Trump because she lacks the political gravitas needed to outperform him, and also will not be able to attract independent votes.

  • It is very difficult to ignore Vice President Harris' supporters, as marginalizing this group will lead to the exclusion of her supporters, which is considered one of the many challenges that must be addressed before embarking on such a step.

  • It is worth noting that a new poll in the United States showed that Vice President Kamala Harris is the first choice to replace Biden if he withdraws from his campaign for re-election, as she received 39% of the votes polled, and California Governor Gavin Newson came second in the opinion poll with 18%, while Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg received 10% of respondents' votes.

The Options.

In this regard, Tara Perry says that the lack of options cannot cause a state of disagreement or lead to a division that becomes more severe with the arrival of the elections, adding:

  • Replacing Biden may be motivating for some voters, given the current decline in enthusiasm.

  • Kamala Harris deserves absolute support if she is the new nominee.

  • All who strive to preserve the principles of true democracy, especially in light of the great challenges facing them today, will undoubtedly cling to their support of Kamala Harris if they truly have the future of democracy in mind.

  • The people prefer that the Republican Party not be divided in any way, so the Democratic Party must consider making necessary adjustments.

  • The Democratic Party should stop making negative statements that Donald Trump will go to prison if convicted.

  • The Democratic Party should focus on strengthening the justice system instead.

  • It is clear from the current political climate in the United States that there is a greater focus on domestic issues than foreign policy, especially with election season approaching.

  • Many citizens are concerned about specific domestic issues, including immigration, which remains central, and the Democratic Party seems reluctant to address this topic clearly, and may avoid debate about it.

  • The necessity of dealing with the issue of immigration in a manner that is both realistic and humane, recognizing the problems and concerns related to it, and working hard to address them in a way that reflects good political will and achieves effective communication and support for affected communities such as the African American community.

  • Increasing employment rates among African Americans and achieving fair and equal employment opportunities for all should be an essential part of today's national conversation about the domestic future of the United States.

  • Perry also adds that no one wants to lose, but it is a mistake to assume that one night can radically determine everything.

  • The possibility of a conviction against Trump and perhaps a prison sentence may lead to a series of successive events that will change the data starting from now until the first week of November.

  • Democrats are currently working on determining their future strategy, and in this context, the results of the deliberations remain unclear and it is possible that Biden will withdraw from the political arena, and it is also possible that he will continue his career in it.

  • The United States must have allies and supporters on the international stage.
