Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said in a post on the social media site Truth Social that he has accepted an offer from Fox News to debate Kamala Harris, the vice president and potential Democratic presidential nominee, on Sept. 4.
“The rules will be the same as my debate with Sleepy Joe, who was treated horribly by his own party, but with a full arena,” Trump said in the post late Friday, referring to President Joe Biden, who later dropped out of the race.
The post was deleted for a few minutes before being reposted, but Trump removed his suggestion of holding a “big” public debate on the same date if Harris was “unwilling or unable to debate.”
Harris responded last month that she was “up for it” after Fox News suggested a presidential debate between the candidates on Sept. 17.
After Biden dropped out of the race on July 21 and endorsed Harris, Trump said he would not debate her because she was not the party’s official nominee.
To prove she didn't have the support, Trump added that former President Barack Obama hadn't endorsed her yet, but Obama did endorse her just one day later, and Harris secured the delegates needed to win the Democratic nomination on Friday.
