A leaked video of a phone call between Republican candidate Donald Trump and independent presidential candidate Robert Kennedy the day after the attempted assassination of Trump provided a behind-the-scenes look at the former president's efforts to convince Kennedy to leave the race and join his camp.
The video was first posted on Tuesday on the X platform by Kennedy's eldest son, and then quickly deleted.
Kennedy apologized for the leaked video, writing on the X platform: “When President Trump called me I was recording with a videographer, I should have asked the videographer to stop recording immediately. I am embarrassed to publish this.”
Over Kennedy's phone microphone, Trump can be heard describing his concerns about infant vaccinations, an issue with which Kennedy is closely associated.
“I want to do small doses that look like they're for a horse, not a 10-pound or 20-pound baby,” Trump said.
Trump then tries to gain Kennedy's support, saying: "I would like you to do something. I think it would be very good for you, and we would win."
"Yes," Kennedy says, standing in a shirt and tie, and throughout the video Kennedy says nothing else.
Trump also briefly described his recent call with President Biden and said he asked about the bullet that nearly hit him in Pennsylvania.
He added: "He was very nice, in fact, he called me and said, 'How did you choose to move to the right?'"
On Monday, Trump and Kennedy met in person in Milwaukee before the Republican National Convention, sparking rumors that Kennedy was planning to withdraw from the election race.
