The United States has approved the delivery of a shipment of bombs to the Israeli Air Force, Israel Hayom reported.
The report refers to the half-ton Mark 83 bombs.
While Iran threatens to avenge the killing of Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, and Hezbollah vows to avenge the killing of its top military commander Fuad Shukr, the United States is working to bolster its support for Israel.
Washington is deploying a large fleet of warships, fighter jets and defense systems to the region, in anticipation of any potential tension.
Israel Hayom has learned that the decision to approve the delivery of the Mark 83 bombs was made even before the current escalation.
In contrast, the fate of the heavier Mark 84 bombs, each weighing one ton, remains uncertain, with no clear indication as to whether the United States will agree to transfer them to Israel.
These half-ton bombs will join about 1,700 Mark 82 bombs, each weighing a quarter ton, that America had previously delivered to Israel.
According to the newspaper, the details of the bombs sent to Israel are as follows:
Mark 82: weighs 250 kg (a quarter ton), quantity 1,700, and this shipment was delayed due to the ground operation in Rafah.
Mark 83: weighs 500 kg (half a ton), the quantity sent was not announced, and it is important for the Air Force.
The US Department of Defense said on Friday that it will deploy additional fighter jets and naval warships to the region.
On Sunday, US President Joe Biden expressed his hope that Iran would back down from its position despite its threat to avenge the assassination of Haniyeh.
On Wednesday, the United States urged its citizens wishing to leave Lebanon to start planning their departure immediately.
